Why Circumcise?

More than three quarters of American males are circumcised, and for good reason. While it is very common to circumcise for religious or cultural reasons, many opt for the procedure for its overwhelming medical benefits, including:

UTI

Decreased risk of urinary tract infections, as foreskin accumulates bacteria while present

Cancer

Reduced chance of penile cancer, especially when circumcision is done at infant stage

Disorders

Reduction in penile inflammatory and retractile disorders including balanitis, meatitis, and inflammation of the prepuce

Hygiene

Easier and improved hygiene, making it simpler to reduce the spread of infections and viruses

STD's

Reduction of many sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, HPV and HSV-2

Additionally

up to 10% of males require circumcision later in life out of medical necessity. In the newborn stage the procedure is simpler, quicker and entails minimal healing time.

Why a Mohel?
While circumcision is offered in hospitals and doctors’ offices, parents of all religions and cultures often prefer the work of a Certified Mohel Rabbi Ari Feldstein for a variety of reasons.

A mohel is a specialist in the field of circumcision. His experience and understanding of the procedure typically surpass those of a physician involved in other arenas.

Additionally, the technique used by a Rabbi Feldstein varies greatly from that generally employed in hospitals. Typically, in hospitals circumcision is performed through the “ring” method, which involves the placement of a tight ring around the foreskin until circulation is cut off, followed by the removal of excess skin, and finally the falling off of the ring after another 7-10 days. This process is prolonged and painful to the newborn.

By contrast, Rabbi Feldstein uses the “shield” method in which he carefully positions a thin guard to protect the glans and promptly removes the foreskin in a process that takes well under a minute. A bandage is placed temporarily to soothe the baby and promote healing, and is removed shortly thereafter. Parents are often surprised by how quickly the entire procedure takes, and are always pleased by the simple aftercare instructions, rapid healing time and aesthetic results.

Furthermore, a baby’s own home is the best place for circumcision, as that is the most comfortable environment for both baby and parents. As opposed to hospitals where parents are not allowed in the room, Rabbi Feldstein encourages parents to be present if they so choose. This way, baby can be back in Mommy’s arms nearly immediately after the procedure.

What to expect.
In-home circumcisions are generally performed in a bedroom or living room with good lighting. The actual procedure takes under a minute, but the total visit generally lasts approximately one hour, allowing time for preparation, aftercare instructions, and for answering any questions you may have. You can rest assured that your baby will heal quickly and healthily.

When to call.
Though circumcision can be done at any point, the optimal time is in the newborn stage. To ensure availability it is strongly recommended to book your appointment as the due date approaches or as soon as the baby is born.

Rabbi Ari Feldstein made the circumcision process simple, straightforward, and as gentle as possible. We were very fortunate he was available to make time to circumcise our second boy, since he travels many miles to make this process easy and comfortable and done in the privacy of one’s own home. Our eldest son was circumcised in the hospital shortly after he was born, and we were not allowed to be there to comfort him. Conversely, this experienced mohel performed my second son’s circumcision while I was able to be in the room with him, and I was grateful for his transparency and warmth. It also seemed to me my second son made a swifter recovery. Lastly, Rabbi Ari provided very clear and detailed instructions for caring for our boy in the subsequent days, which helped with the serenity of the overall experience. Very grateful for Rabbi Ari!
Rabbi Ari Feldstein was great! He was easy to work with, let us know ahead of time exactly how things would go and the few supplies we’d need for aftercare, and was very calm, professional, and careful with our little boy. He allowed us to remain in the room during the procedure, only if we wanted to, and calmly talked us through what he was doing. The procedure was quick and he gave detailed instructions on how to care for our boy afterward. Healing was very quick as well.
Rabbi Ari was fantastic - if your son was not circumcised at the hospital, or you’re looking for other options ahead of time, this is the man you need to see. The process takes seconds, we were able to be with our son the whole time, and it was much less painful/stressful than what they did at the hospital for our firstborn. Our son was transferred quickly at birth due to some complications and we weren't able to get him circumcised (though, now I see this as a good thing). I only wish we knew Rabbi Ari sooner. We are very grateful for his expertise.
