Though there is some fleeting discomfort from the procedure, there are studies that indicate that nerve endings in a newborn are not fully developed and hence pain is not fully sensed. However, babies generally cry when their diapers are opened - circumcision or not - simply because they are cold, and numbing creams have proven largely ineffective to reduce that crying. Still, I apply topical anesthesia to mitigate any pain that might be felt. Parents often express surprise over how quickly their baby stops crying, which further indicates that any pain is minimal and brief.
Despite the fact that bris/circumcisions are done outside of medical centers, I put in every effort to ensure the highest possible levels of sterility. All equipment and instruments are sterilized before each procedure in an autoclave, which uses steam and pressure to destroy any harmful bacteria (the same way your dentist’s instruments are sterilized). Your baby’s health is my number one priority.
With my method babies are typically their regular selves immediately after the circumcision, and can be handled completely normally. Sometimes they will be a bit more sleepy for the first 24 hours or so as they settle from the procedure, allowing parents some time to relax too!
Absolutely! A typical bris involves several honors that are bestowed to family or friends (usually about 5-7), and I am happy to assist in the designation of each one. At the bris, each honoree is guided how to fulfill the given role, so everyone feels comfortable while enhancing the ceremony.
As the naming is a major part of the bris ceremony, a mohel is also on hand to help choose a name in honor of a loved one, an event, or just to find the perfect match for your baby. I am happy to explore options with you to find that name that everyone will love.
No problem. I have performed bris milah/circumcision in many cities across the US and abroad, and will travel virtually anywhere.
Rates vary by location, as travel time is factored in. Please contact me for the rate for your area. Upon request, a receipt is issued for insurance reimbursement (provided by many, though not all, carriers).
No problem. I provide in-home circumcision services for families of all faiths and backgrounds. Even when choosing circumcision not for religious reasons, it is very common for parents to prefer my services over those of a hospital or physician, as my procedure is extremely quick, the results are always beautiful, and Mommy can stay at home with her baby - where they should be!
No. Vitamin K is a parents' choice, and I regularly perform the procedure without complication for babies with or without the shot.
